They keep our buildings looking good and operating efficiently, but most importantly, they keep our staff and students comfortable and safe each and every day. NEXT WEEK is Parent-Teacher Conferences across USD 480! Please make sure you have a time scheduled for each of your students at USD 480. It is important to attend conferences at every grade level.
Next week will also be Bright Start Pre-Enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year! This will be your first opportunity to find out what Bright Start is all about Tuesday or Wednesday. Students must be 4 years old on or before August 31, 2026 to pre-enroll.
There will be NO SCHOOL Thursday and Friday NEXT WEEK. NO SCHOOL at Bright Start on Wednesday.

This week is School Social Work Week and we are so fortunate to have such a wonderful group on our social work team! The things they do to take care of our students and families go well beyond expectations. Above and beyond is their starting point and we appreciate all that they do, seen and unseen. Theirs is not an easy job and one that requires tremendous fortitude and perseverance. School social workers are the heart of mental health support in our schools. They build bridges between home, school, and community — offering trauma-informed care, crisis support, and advocacy for equity. Join us in celebrating this amazing group and all they do for USD 480 and our community!

Today, our 2026 USD 480 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year were able to showcase USD 480 to fellow Teachers of the Year from around the area. Mrs. Rios from Cottonwood and Mrs. Hartnett from Eisenhower spent the day showing some of the great things we have going on throughout the district! We want to thank all of the educators from other districts who spent the day with us!

Lately, we have seen an increasing number of drivers not following the Kansas School Bus Stop Arm Law around Liberal. Our bus drivers activate the warning lights (amber lights) as a warning they are about to stop prior to activating the red flashing lights and stop arm, which allows other drivers time to slow down and stop. When the red lights are flashing and the stop arm is activated you may not pass or go around the bus. Motorists approaching buses from the opposite direction must also stop to allow students to safely cross the street if needed. The safety of our students will remain our top priority from the moment they enter our care. Please take time to review the attached document and continue to remain vigilant around our buses and buildings. Our bus drivers do a tremendous job navigating our streets and schools and they deserve to have a community that helps them and follows the law. In the near future, we will be working with the Liberal Police Department to ensure all motorists are following this law in the mornings and afternoons to make sure our students are as safe as possible. We appreciate your cooperation!
