Monica Vega Assistant Activities Director

Liberal High School has named 2007 alumnus Monica Vega as the new Assistant Activities Director.  Vega has a wealth of experience and skills that she brings to the position.  This includes serving as the Sports Advisor for the City of Liberal Recreation Department, an Admissions Counselor at the collegiate level, and the Digital and Media Marketing Coordinator at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. 

During her time in those positions, Vega has recruited, hired, and supervised both employees and student workers, worked with budgets, written grants, served as the compliance officer for an NCAA Division III National Volleyball tournament and as a guest writer for the Big 12 Conference, created photo and video content to inform and promote programs with which she was the contact, and overseen numerous game day and event operations.

I look forward to her expertise, enthusiasm, and contributions she can provide to our activities department and our school. I also see the commitment and passion for the Liberal community as an important tool that Monica will bring with her. I look forward to working with Monica and working to improve activities at Liberal High School.” incoming Liberal High School Activities Director Kerri Miles said.

After graduating from Liberal High School, Vega went on to attend Seward County Community College for one year and attend and play soccer at Cowley County Community College before finishing her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications at Kansas State University. 

During her time in school, Vega was involved in various clubs and organizations.  Some of them included Seward County Cheerleading Team, Kansas State University HALO Club.  Additionally, since 2016 she has been serving in the roles of President and Vice President of Coaches Against Cancer.

“We are so proud of our Liberal High School graduate and for all that she has accomplished and experienced in such a short amount of time.  Moreover, we look forward to having her bring her skill set and experiences to our team,” Liberal High School Principal Ashley Kappelmann said.

Vega currently lives in Kansas City with her son and is looking forward to making the move back home to Liberal.  

“I am very excited to be returning to be part of the Liberal High School community: Liberal has been a community that has provided me with a lot of opportunities,” Vega said.  “I am most looking forward to working with the LHS students and sponsors.  I believe the power of extracurricular activities, so creating and enhancing those experiences is very important to me.  I think that my past experiences have prepared me to be a contributing leader at LHS.  It is so important to continue that Redskin Pride.”
