Truck Driving
Course Description:
If the thought of driving a big rig
across miles of highway is exciting, then truck driving is the career
for you. The program takes only seven weeks to complete. Students will
attend eight hours per day for a total of 304 hours of instruction.
Students spend 60 hours in the classroom for lectures, demonstrations,
audio/visual presentations, worksheets and tests; 40 hours on the
driving range for instruction in maneuvering obstacles,
braking-shifting, backing and lane control; the final 180 hours will be
on-the-road instruction, driving actual loads on two-lane and four-lane
roads, interstates, and town and city driving.
Special, dedicated housing for truck driving students available.

Course Content:
-Orientation to the trucking industry
-Vehicle equipment control
-Pre-trip inspection, coupling-uncoupling procedures
-Basic maneuvering and handling
-Documentation and cargo handling
-Applied log book operation
-Preventative maintenance and trouble shooting
-Driving and shifting techniques for cab-over and conventional trucks
-Hazardous conditions
Career Opportunities:
Truck driving is one of the fastest
growing job markets in the country. The trucking industry is booming
with over 4 million tractor-trailer combinations on the road. There are
over 400,000 new drivers needed on the road. More goods are carried by
truck than by air , train or water. Trucks haul 3 out of every 4 tons
of goods. Husbands/Wives joining the ranks as driving teams.
