Business and Services
Although Liberal remains closely tied
to its agricultural and petroleum origins, our community also has many
retail and industrial businesses.
National Beef Packing Company, a fortune
500 Company, ships beef and beef by-products all over the world. Its subsidiary,
National Carriers, hauls beef products and general commodities throughout
the continental U.S.
Several major and independent petroleum
firms, including Duke Energy, National Helium, Anadarko Production,
and Mobil Oil, have offices in and around Liberal. Complementary gas and
oil field service companies also operate in the area.
The Nash-Finch Company, a grocery wholesaler
for more than 70 area grocery stores, has a regional warehouse outlet in
Liberal. Several other national and regional trucking companies operate
out of Liberal.
Banking
Liberal has four banks and a number of
other financial institutions.
Shopping
Liberal offers a variety of fine stores
located in three major shopping areas. Those include the downtown businesses
and shops, an indoor shopping mall, and a large outdoor shopping center.
Restaurants
No matter what you’re hungry for, you
can find it in Liberal. Fine steak, from Liberal’s own National Beef, Oriental,
Mexican, and the children’s favorite fast foods are all available. We have
small cafés, family-style restaurants, and private clubs to suit any taste.
Child Care
A number of day care and preschool facilities
are available in Liberal. The Seward County Health Office maintains a list
of licensed day care providers.
Media
Liberal’s newspaper, The Southwest Daily
Times, is published Sunday through Friday. Three local AM and FM radio
stations are located in Liberal. Television reception is received from
Garden City, Ensign, Copeland, and Amarillo, Texas. Cable television offers
over 60 channels.
Air Service
The Liberal Municipal Airport is served
by United Express with scheduled daily flights to Denver. The airport also
accommodates business jets and general aviation.
