Probable Science Project CATEGORIES (depending on numbers): Biology Environmental Science Behavioral Science Earth & Space Science Physical Science Chemistry ALL PROJECTSA. A student may enter only one traditional science project. B. Identical repetition of previous year's work is not permitted. An individual may again exhibit research on a continuing problem Provided that the research shows significant progress when compared with the previous year's. C. The student's name, grade, or school name must NOT be included anywhere on the project.
Placing Your Science Fair Project In The Appropriate CategoryThe following information may help in selecting the proper category for your project but remember that the director of your regional fair will have the final authority on categories. You may also check the ISEF Student Handbook for additional information. 1. Biochemistry, Medicine, and Health Science: All projects that primarily involve investigations in molecular biology or blood, protein or food chemistry, as well as projects related to the fields of medicine and health such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, speech, and hearing.
2. Botany: All projects that primarily involve investigations in plant life.
3. Zoology: All projects that primarily involve investigations in animal life.
4. Earth and Space Science: All projects that primarily involve investigations in geology, astronomy, weather, aviation and aerospace.
5. Behavioral and Social Science: All projects that involve studies of the behavior of all plants and animals and the mechanisms of a social system.
6. Engineering: All projects that primarily involve technological and utilitarian applications of other categories.
7. Mathematics and Computer Science: All projects that primarily involve investigations in mathematics, such as number systems and/or their properties.
8. Environmental Science: All projects that involve investigations designed to improve the quality of the environment or the study and development of computer software, hardware, or associated logical devices. Note: Projects that use computers or apply computer procedures to scientific problems should be placed in another category.
9. Physical Science: All projects that involve investigations in physics and chemistry.
